The trailhead was at 3900 feet. The trail ran along the valley bottom for the first six miles to the Fern Lake trailhead. My first overnight scramble and first use of my bivy sack was at Fern Lake, on a scramble to Choral peak. Then the trail climbed steeply to the Pyramid Mtn junction, and finished with a moderate run through meadows to Emerald Basin, 6900 feet.
